Páirc Uí Chaoimh will not be in use for a single one of the 17 Cork football championship knockout games scheduled for the weekend after next.

Whereas the stadium will play host to five hurling quarter-finals this weekend across Premier Senior and Senior A, the county board has opted not to fix a single football quarter-final, at any grade, for Cork’s premier venue.

Premier Senior club managers in Cork, speaking after their successful Round 3 football outings on Sunday, were of the view that the quarter-finals would be played at Páirc Uí Chaoimh given all three PSFC quarter-finals in 2021 and again last year were staged at the Ballintemple venue.

Castlehaven boss James McCarthy, following their victory over Clon, said “to be going back to Páirc Uí Chaoimh again, we really love going back there.

That’s great for our young fellas, taking them up there and watching the games”.

Castlehaven, though, aren’t going back to Páirc Uí Chaoimh for a third successive quarter-final appearance.

Their last-seven game, against Ballincollig, has instead been fixed for Enniskeane. Clonakilty and Nemo Rangers, meanwhile, will meet at Bandon.

Páirc Uí Rinn is being used for just two knockout football games, that the Premier Senior Group C playoff between Douglas and St Michael’s, and the quarter-final between the winner of this playoff and Duhallow.

That quarter-final is provisionally fixed for Wednesday, September 27, but could be switched to an alternative date subject to the progress of Blackrock and Douglas on the hurling side.

This approach of regionalising important county championship games follows on from the Round 3 action in the Premier SHC where only one of the six games was played at Páirc Uí Rinn.

The five other games were distributed to venues outside the city such as Carrigtwohill, Cloyne, Mallow, Mourneabbey, and Fermoy.
