Carlow bids to dry up pitch urinating problems
Clubs in Carlow have been told to inform their players to stop urinating on pitches before games.
At the most recent meeting of the Carlow County Board, Carlow development officer Brian O’Neill has described as “absolutely disgusting” the practice of players urinating on the Netwatch Dr Cullen Park field before games.
O’Neill informed delegates that before throw-in, a small minority of players, in full view of spectators in the stand and on the terraces, were urinating at the less-crowded corners of the pitch.
“I find it absolutely disgusting,” said O’Neill.
I have spoken to players, mentors and clubs five minutes before the match. We have rules for sideline discipline. Is urinating on the pitch acceptable? This matter must be put to bed.
O’Neill, according to the Carlow Nationalist, told delegates the smell from the affected two corners of the pitch in question was nauseating.
One delegate queried whether cameras could be employed to identify the guilty parties and their clubs be fined accordingly.
Chairperson Sean Campion, who said that at most provincial venues players go down the tunnel to relieve themselves, asked for a note to be sent out to all clubs regarding concerns raised.
Carlow PRO Tommy Murphy said all clubs must be informed this is unacceptable behaviour.
“If you were caught doing this on the street, you would be up in court.”
