Hah! We knew it all along!

The Ladyball mystery finally solved after social media furore

The pink, lightweight ball that threw social media into a tizzy this week was, indeed, part of a clever marketing effort to promote women in sport.

Just. As. We. Suspected.

“Play like the lady you are.”

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and Lidl joined forces in the effort and will announce details next Thursday of a partnership which will see Lidl become the official retail partner to the LGFA and title sponsors of the Lidl Ladies National Football League, as well as grassroots activity.

The whole concept was to “put the spotlight on women in sport in Ireland and raise awareness of the difficulties female sports persons have in getting the same recognition as their male counterparts”, the parties said in a statement this evening.

All Ireland winning Dublin footballer Ger Brennan, a strong advocate of women in sport, and Ladies Gaelic Football in particular, agreed to participate as a “Ladyball” spokesperson when he realised what they wished to achieve.

Speaking about “Ladyball” and the Lidl sponsorship agreement LGFA president Marie Hickey said: “We hope to see everyone who spoke so passionately in women’s defence in this debate, channel that same energy into pitchside support during the coming season.”
