Treacy survives heave to stay in charge of Galway GAA

Noel Treacy will remain in charge of Galway GAA for a fifth and final year after holding off the challenge of three other candidates.
Treacy had come under pressure for the position in the fallout from the row between the Galway hurlers and team management which led to the resignation last month of Anthony Cunningham.
But Treacy, a former Fianna Fail minister, survived the heave at the annual Galway convention late last night.
Michael Regan from Loughrea was the first to bow out of the race when he received just 20 of the 237 votes.
Former football board chairman John Joe Holleran was next to go when he received 54 votes after transfers.
That left just two in the field and Treacy, a member of the Padraig Pearses club, was re-elected by 139 votes to 93 against former hurling board secretary John Fahy from St Thomas.
Treacy said it was a big honour to be re-elected.
âThere are a lot of challenges to be dealt with but Iâm looking forward to them,â he said.
