Clare will meet Cork in the Waterford Crystal Cup semi-finals next weekend, following a slender 0-16 to 0-15 win over Tipperary at Sixmilebridge.
Davy Fitzgerald’s side booked their seventh last-four appearance in as many years, after an injury-time point from Colin Ryan was the crucial score.
Both of these sides had faced off in the previous three finals, so a tight encounter was expected and although from a scoring perspective it was tight, this game was far from vintage.
It was the second game this weekend for many of the Clare contingent, with Davy O’Halloran, Aaron Cunningham and Cathal ’Tots’ O'Connell all part of the EI Electronics side that claimed a first ever All-Ireland Junior Interfirms title in UL on Friday night.
Both sides enjoyed their share of the lead during this game, with no more than two points between the teams in the opening 35 minutes.
Tied on four occasions during the opening half, Clare led by 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval, with a brace of Cathal O’Connell pointed frees helping the hosts take the advantage.
Goal chances were rare, but when scores from substitutes Ryan and Paul Flanagan pushed the Banner 0-15 to 0-11 clear after 62 minutes it looked liked victory was Clare’s.
But Tipperary pegged it back, with Brendan Maher taking a trio of scores to tie the game after 69 minutes.
However, Ryan had time to snatch a winner.
For both Clare’s Conor Cleary and Tipperary’s Kieran Bergin there’s little rest as they line out for NUI Galway and DIT respectively in the Bord na Móna Walsh Cup on Tuesday night.
