Aogan Farrell has been appointed as the 38th President of the GAA at Croke Park this evening.

Farrell became the first Cavan native to take the roll and the seventh Ulster man.

311 delegates were entitled to vote, with Farrell earning 170 of the votes; Wexford's Seamus Howlin was second with 83 votes, while Kerry's Sean Walsh was third with 57 votes.

The Drumgoon Éire Óg clubman is the first Ulsterman to assume the role of GAA President since Monaghan's Seán McCague held the role between 2000 and 2003.

Farrell has previously served in a variety of roles at club, county and provincial level and was Ulster Council President.

The Dernakesh national school teacher will take the role following GAA Congress 2015.
