GAA County Hurling finals wrap

Senior Hurling titles were up for grabs in Waterford, Tipperary, Kerry, Roscommon, Mayo and Leitrim this weekend.

Passage were crowned Waterford SHC champions for the first time thanks to a 3-16 to 3-13 win over Ballygunner.

Contesting their first final since 1997, and only their fourth in their history, Passage came from seven points down with 10 minutes remaining to take silverware.

The sides were tied on five occasions in the opening half, including at 1-06 apiece at the interval, with Stephen Power netting Ballygunner's goal, while Owen Connors claimed Passage's three-pointer and finished with 1-07.

Ballygunner took control inside 10 minutes of the restart with two quick goals, including one from JJ Hutchinson to move 3-9 to 1-08 in front.

Passage cut the deficit to six points and failed to give up, with goals in injury time from Sean Hogan and Conor Carey ensured joint captains Eoin Kelly and Conor Carey lifted the cup after the game.

Loughmore-Castleiney claimed their third Tipperary SHC title, and their first since 2007 following a slender 1-17 to 1-16 win over Nenagh Éire Óg.

Noel McGrath was inspirational, scoring six of his seven points in the closing 30 minutes as the eventual winners overcame a six-point deficit to take the Dan Breen Cup.

Lixnaw and St. Brendan's must meet again following their 1-10 to 0-13 in today's Kerry SHC Final. The replay is likely to take place in a fortnight's time at Austin Stack Park.

Four Roads claimed their 31st Roscommon SHC title following a 2-15 to 2-09 win over Oran.

The sides were tied at 2-08 apiece after 41 minutes, but Oran failed to score in the closing 13 minutes, as Four Roads added four unanswered points to take a sixth title in succession.

Toureen ended Ballyhaunis's quest for a six-in-a-row of Mayo SHC titles, following a comfortable 4-10 to 1-06 win in Ballyhaunis.

In a repeat of last year's final, Toureen were firmly out to exert revenge and claim their first title since 2003.

Toureen led by 4-04 to 0-04 at half-time, with Kenny Feeney bagging a hat-trick. Feeney tallied 3-06 over the 60 minutes, with Ray Larkin claiming Toureen's other goal.

Ballyhaunis fought hard, with Stephen Hoban netting their lone goal, but Shane Morley accepted the TJ Tyrell Cup cup from John Hopkins, Mayo Hurling Committee Chairman after the game, with Cathal Freeman picking up the Man of the Match award.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, 17-year old Gavin O'Hagan scored 0-10 in Manorhamilton's 3-14 to 1-10 win over Carrick in the Leitrim SHC decider.
