Quinn wants Cody to stay

Kilkenny County Board Chairman Ned Quinn has expressed his desire for Brian Cody to remain in charge of the Cats hurlers for a 16th season.

Although they annexed another Allianz Hurling League crown this year, Kilkenny missed out on Leinster and All-Ireland success with the Cats not contesting an All-Ireland senior decider for only the third time during Cody's 15-year reign.

Despite their Championship losses to Dublin and Cork this summer, Quinn has given a ringing endorsement of Cody and selectors Michael Dempsey and Martin Fogarty as thoughts on Noreside already turn to the 2014 campaign.

Quinn is also eager for the county panel's elder statesmen not to hang up their hurls, including nine-time All-Ireland winner Henry Shefflin who turns 35 in January.

"My personal wish is that there would be no major change and that the management and players would continue with the county," Quinn told the Kilkenny People.

"All who were involved with the team (that played Cork) in Thurles still have an awful lot to offer. Remember we did win the National League."
