Finalists take bulk of Camogie All-Stars

All-Ireland Senior Champions Wexford and beaten finalists Cork received six awards each at the 2012 Camogie All-Stars last night.

Olympian Annalise Murphy handed out the accolades at the Citywest Hotel on a night where the Intermediate and Junior players were also honoured with Soaring Star awards.

Wexford were honoured with a trio of gongs in both defence and attack, with Claire O'Connor, Catherine O'Loughlin and Deirdre Codd receiving awards at the back.

Upfront, Kate Kelly, Katrina Parrock and All Ireland Final 'Player of the Match' Ursula Jacob claimed All-Stars.

Parrock and Jacob for their exploits in the full-forward line, where Cork's Katrina Mackey was also honoured.

Katrina joining her sister Pamela in the side, ensuring the Mackey's became the first twins to be honoured with Camogie All-Stars.

Elsewhere, there was plenty of other joy for Cork with Gemma O'Connor claiming her seventh award, while Goalkeeper Aoife Murray, midfielder Jennifer O’Leary and forward Briege Corkery were also honoured.

Offaly's march to a first ever All-Ireland semi-final was recognised with corner-back Sheila Sullivan honoured, while Galway players Niamh Kilkenny and Niamh McGrath were honoured at midfield and centre-half-forward respectively.

The 2012 Soaring Star and Intermediate Soaring Star team, which were announced in advance, were also presented on the night.

Derry duo Sinéad Cassidy and Katie McAnenly along with Galway's Sarah Noone received Intermediate accolades.

Meath picked up eight Junior awards with Emily Mangan, Claire Coffery, Fiona O'Neill, Aoife Thompson, Kristina Troy, Jane Dolan, Aileen Donnelly and Sinead Hackett honoured.

Beaten All-Ireland Junior finalists Down received five awards with Karen Tinnelly, Lisa McCrickard, Catherine McGourty, Niamh Mallon and Sara-Louise Carr taking accolades.

Laois's Sarah Anne Fitzgerald and Kildare's Susie O'Carroll also claimed honours.

Meanwhile, departing Wexford manager JJ Doyle claimed the O'Neills Manager of the Year award.

It is the second year in a row for Doyle to receive the accolade having led the Model County to three-in-a row All Ireland titles earlier this September.

Camogie President Aileen Lawlor said, "Congratulations to JJ Doyle on his second successive Manager of the Year award. He has helped write Wexford into the history books, achieving their third senior camogie All Ireland in a row in 2012. It is a tremendous achievement for JJ."

In 2011, Doyle claimed a rare feat by managing both Wexford Senior and Intermediate teams to All-Ireland glory on the same day at Croke Park.

Earlier this week, Doyle was appointed as the Wexford Under 21 Hurling manager.
