Cunningham looking for improvement

Galway manager Antony Cunningham has said they are delighted to still be in the Championship following yesterday's All-Ireland final draw in Croke Park.

Joe Canning scored 1-9 for the Leinster champions while Henry Shefflin scored 12 points for the Cats, 11 of which were from placed balls.

Cunningham discounted talk about whether it was chance missed for his side given the amount of wides they hit in the second half.

Cunningham said: "Some of the wides could have gone over and we probably rushed a couple of them, there were misses from both sides. Definitely early on Kilkenny put a few frees wide and there was a swirly breeze there which probably is not as evident up in the stands.

"But we were delighted with the scores that we got, but we are always looking for improvement."

Kilkenny centre back Brian Hogan said they must concentrate on their own deficiencies rather than the late free awarded by referee Barry Kelly from which Joe Canning equalised.

Hogan said: "You will get those decisions on some days and you won’t on other days. There is no point giving out about them or agreeing with them.

"We are better off expending our energy on things that are not in our own control, our own performances, use of the ball. There is no point worrying about things that are out of our control, the referee has his own job to do, he will make decisions as to how he sees fit."

Dublin and Tipperary will meet again in the minor final following their 2-13 to 1-16 scoreline yesterday, the first drawn final since 2004.

Both games will be re-played on September 30.
