Garvey appeal to be heard next Tuesday

Down wing back Conor Garvey will have his appeal against a one-match ban heard by the GAA's Central Appeals Committee next Tuesday night.

Down wing back Conor Garvey will have his appeal against a one-match ban heard by the GAA's Central Appeals Committee next Tuesday night.

Garvey was hit with the suspension for an alleged stamp on Monaghan's Karl O'Connell during the sides' Ulster SFC semi-final clash almost two weeks ago.

The Central Competitions Control Committee picked up on the incident after reviewing video footage of the game.

In upholding the suspension, the Central Hearings Committee deemed that the infraction 'was more likely to have occurred than not to have occurred'.

As things stand, Garvey will miss the Ulster final against defending champions Donegal on Sunday, July 22 unless his case is successful with the CAC or the Disputes Resolution Authority - the last option available to him if next week's appeal is turned down.

Meanwhile, Down forward Benny Coulter did not mince his words when asked about the disciplining of his team-mate Garvey

"I think it is wrong, so many players in the GAA get away with it," Coulter told BBC Northern Ireland.

"There must be something against the Down players and I think it is a disgrace."
