Manager Alan Mulholland has also drafted Damien Burke and Sean Armstrong into the attack, with the pair having both missed last year's Championship.

Armstrong has shaken off a hamstring injury to link up with Paul Conroy and Mark Hehir in the Tribesmen's full-forward line.

With no substitutes list named, it remains to be seen if veteran sharpshooter Pádraic Joyce will be involved or fellow forward Michael Meehan.

Joyce missed a few weeks with a calf injury but is expected to see some game-time against the Rossies, while the injury-plagued Meehan might not be rushed back.

Working his way back from ankle surgery, Meehan has made steady progress in recent weeks with run-outs for his club Caltra and he also played for Galway in a challenge match against Laois.

Mulholland, in his first Championship campaign with Galway, is hoping to extend the county's fine record against Roscommon - they have suffered just one SFC defeat to Roscommon in the past 21 years.

GALWAY (SFC v Roscommon): Adrian Faherty; Kieran McGrath, Finian Hanley, Keith Kelly; Garreth Bradshaw, Johnny Duane, Gary O'Donnell; Joe Bergin, Greg Higgins; Gary Sice, Damien Burke, Thomas Flynn; Sean Armstrong, Paul Conroy, Mark Hehir.
