Bans handed out following Tyrone GAA brawl

Tyrone disciplinary chiefs have issued a number of bans and fines over the ugly scenes which marred the county's recent O'Neills Division 1 ACL final between Carrickmore and Dromore.

In the closing stages of the game at Dunmoyle, a mass brawl broke out on the pitch and there was also fighting between spectators in the stands.

Dromore won the final 0-11 to 0-6 to complete a League and Championship double, but the fall-out from the disturbances both on and off the pitch subsequently grabbed the headlines.

After a number of meetings, the Tyrone Competitions Control Committee have now punished those involved in the violence.

Four people from each club who were seen to be fighting have been given year-long bans, and three Carrickmore players were hit with lengthy suspensions.

Both Carrickmore and Dromore have been fined £300 each, and their next two fixtures against each other will be played at neutral grounds.

A statement from Tyrone GAA today confirmed that a 'very thorough' investigation had taken place, with the full cooperation of the Carrickmore and Dromore clubs.

"The Tyrone CCC have issued proposed sanctions to both of the clubs arising out of the incident in this year's O'Neills Division 1 ACL Final," it read.

"The proposed bans total some 452 weeks. The individuals concerned from both clubs will be informed by their club secretary.

"In addition both clubs received the maximum fine under the Tyrone Bye Law and other playing sanctions have been proposed.

"The sanctions proposed by the Tyrone CCC are amongst the most severe ever issued by Tyrone GAA. We thank both clubs for their support in the investigation and are confident that lessons have and will be learnt from the unacceptable scenes in Dunmoyle."

Both clubs have also been banned from taking part in the league play-offs next season.
