Club form sees Geraghty earn Meath recall

Seamus McEnaney has sprung a huge surprise by drafting former All-Ireland SFC winning captain Graham Geraghty back into the Meath panel.

Geraghty, who lifted the Sam Maguire Cup in 1999 and has retired twice before, was invited back into the Royals set-up following some eye-catching displays for his club Clann na nGael.

The 38-year-old has not played senior inter-county football since announcing his retirement in 2008, but McEnaney says he deserves a chance given his current form.

"For me, if a player is good enough, he's good enough. It doesn't matter whether he's young or old, I'm not looking for birth certs," the Meath boss told the Irish Examiner.

"I'm looking for good players. Graham has shown a good bit of form with his club and he's going to get an opportunity over the next few weeks to see if he is still up to this level."

Meath played a challenge match last night against Westmeath in Rosemount as they gear up for a Leinster SFC quarter-final clash with either Kildare or Wicklow on Sunday, June 5.

Geraghty was not involved in the game against Westmeath, which saw 25 players get a chance to impress the management. 18 others took part in a high intensity training session at another location.

Meanwhile, speculation linking veteran defender Darren Fay with a return to the Meath fold has been dismissed.
