Late fitness tests for Laois' Campion and Reddin

Laois manager Brendan Fennelly is sweating on the fitness of Brian Campion and Ger Reddin ahead of tomorrow's Leinster SHC opener against Antrim at O'Moore Park.

Both Campion and Reddin have been named in the starting line-up but will undergo fitness tests tonight in order to assess their availability.

"We have major concerns about two players," admitted Fennelly at last night's Leinster GAA Championships launch.

"Brian Campion is still only 40/60 in terms of his availability and the way that he is feeling.

"He is coming in on Friday to strike a few balls. He hasn't done any work for three weeks after he got a very nasty injury in a club game."

Reddin approaches this game still nursing a problem with his ankle.

"Ger Reddin trained on Tuesday night but he was finding it difficult to turn to his left. We are just hoping that the extra three or four days will help him.

"We will know on Friday night and make a final decision on the pair then," he added.

Meanwhile, Willie Hyland has been named at left half-forward, despite being in the middle of marketing and management final exams at Limerick IT.

Fennelly has had to plan without the services of defenders Mick McEvoy, Darren Maher and Cahir Healy, who are all based in England and were Championship starters last year.

Forwards Tommy Fitzgerald and John Brophy dropped themselves off the panel during the Allianz Hurling League.

Laois (SHC v Antrim): P Mullaney; JA Delaney, B Campion, B Stapleton; J Fitzpatrick, M Whelan, B Galvin; J Walsh, S Burke; B Dunne, G Reddin, W Hyland; O Holohan, N Foyle, J Brophy.
