O'Shaughnessy calls time on inter-county career
2007 All-Star hurler Andrew O'Shaughnessy has played his last game for the Limerick senior team, it has been confirmed.
O'Shaughnessy informed local radio station Limerick's Live 95FM of his decision to retire from the inter-county game. He is citing 'a loss of form' and said that he will now concentrate on playing for his club Kilmallock.
The talented forward, who is still only 26, lined out for Limerick in the early rounds of this year's Allianz Hurling League, and his last Championship outing was in the 2009 All-Ireland SHC semi-final defeat to Tipperary.
O'Shaughnessy played at corner forward in the February win over Clare, Limerick's opponents in Saturday's Division 2 final, and also featured in the victories over Westmeath and Laois.
The Irish Army Lieutenant was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November 2009, but has not let the disease curtail his working or sporting life.
Last October he pointed five frees to help Kilmallock win the Limerick Club SHC title for the first time since 1994, beating Emmets 1-16 to 1-12 in a well-contested final.
He made his Championship bow for Limerick in 2002 as a substitute against Cork, and scored eight goals and 102 points in his 33 SHC appearances for the Shannonsiders.
