National Football League Division 3 round-up

Late goals helped Offaly and Westmeath to wins in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League this afternoon, while their were also victories for Louth and Cavan.

At Newcastlewest, an injury-time goal from Ken Casey helped Offaly run out 2-10 to 1-12 winners over a valiant Limerick side.

Offaly led by 0-04 to 0-01 after 12 minutes thanks to points from John Coughlan and John Reynolds, allied to a Nigel Dunne brace.

Reynolds scored the opening goal for Offaly soon after, profiting from a pass from Ciaran McManus. A Seamus O'Carroll fisted effort raised a green flag for Limerick before the break.

Offaly led by 1-06 to 1-04 at half-time, but Limerick claimed the first two points of the second half to tie the contest and broke 1-10 to 1-09 ahead as the game entered the final quarter.

The Faithfuls were dogged in defence with a superb save from goalkeeper Alan Mulhall giving them great heart. They then battled back with Casey's late goal setting up their second win of the campaign.

At Semple Stadium, Paul Greville's late goal got Westmeath off the mark in the division. They beat Tipperary on a 2-13 to 2-09 scoreline.

The sides were tied at 0-06 to 1-03 at the interval, with Westmeath moving two points clear early in the second period..

A second goal saw Tipperary take a 2-08 to 0-09 advantage, but Westmeath finished strongly as Greville's goal propelled Pat Flanagan's side to victory.

Louth also won away from home as they avenged an midweek Under-21 defeat to Wexford, by registering a 1-12 to 0-11 victory at Wexford Park.

Wexford's unbeaten record came to an end following this four-point win for the Wee County side.

Louth led by 0-04 to 0-01 at the end of first quarter, however Wexford's Ben Brosnan, who top-scored with 0-07, and Ciaran Lyng tied the game at 0-04 each.

Although Paddy Keenan's penalty goal gave Louth a 1-04 to 0-05 advantage for half-time, two points from Lyng and one from Brosnan helped Wexford push ahead for the first time after the restart.

Little separated the sides in the second half - they were tied at 0-09 to 1-06 approaching the final quarter.

However, Louth increased the tempo late on as Shane Lennon (0-04), Derek Maguire (0-03) and JP Lennon added fine scores to ensure a hard-fought triumph for Peter Fitzpatrick's men.

Meanwhile, Cavan record a 0-13 to 1-08 win over Waterford at Kingspan Breffni Park today. Val Andrews' charges had led by 0-06 to 0-04 at half-time. Seanie Johnston bagged 0-03 for the Breffni men, while Waterford's Brian Wall ended the game with five points.
