National Football League Division 3 round-up
Louth, Wexford and Waterford were victorious in Division 3 of the Allianz National Football League today, while Westmeath and Cavan drew at Cusack Park.
At Drogheda, Louth secured a 1-12 to 1-10 triumph over a determined Tipperary side. Shane Lennon netted the only goal for Louth, with Barry Grogan raising Tipperary's lone green flag.
Wexford, meanwhile, ran out 1-12 to 0-11 winners over Offaly at O'Connor Park in Tullamore.
Jason Ryan's charges began the game in stunning fashion, taking a 0-07 to 0-01 lead early on but Offaly, who were 0-08 to 0-02 behind at the break, made a spirited comeback in the second half.
The Faithfuls cut the deficit to three points on the restart, but a Rory Quinlivan goal paved the way for a Wexford success.
A brace of goals from Mark Ferncombe helped Waterford to a 2-08 to 0-08 victory over Limerick at Dungarvan.
The only draw of the day in Division 3 was provided by Westmeath and Cavan following an entertaining encounter at Mullingar.
Gearoid McKiernan proved to be the Breffni side's saviour with his late points forcing a 1-09 to 0-12 draw.
Cavan had failed to score for the final 25 minutes of the opening half, but Westmeath were unable to make them pay during this spell. The sides were deadlocked at 1-02 to 0-05 at the interval.
Seanie Johnston had fired home a ninth minute goal for Cavan to give them an early 1-02 to 0-01 lead.
It was a real battle in the second half, with Dessie Dolan performing well for Westmeath. Johnston continued to pick off some fine scores for the visitors.
Youngster John Heslin was sent-off for Westmeath following a second yellow card in the closing stages.
