Kilkenny and Offaly claimed victories in the Walsh Cup and Shield semi-finals respectively this morning.

Richie Hogan led the charge with 2-6 for Kilkenny as they registered a 3-16 to 1-9 win over a determined Laois outfit at Kelly Daly Park, Rathdowney.

Goals from Hogan and Aidan Fogarty helped the full-strength visitors to a 2-8 to 1-4 interval lead.

Despite the Cats dominance on the scoreboard, Brian Cody's charges were placed under huge pressure by an impressive Laois defence.

The O'Moore's excelled at the back, where Brian Campion, Brian Stapleton, Brian Smith and Matthew Whelan won a huge percentage of possession, from the likes of Hogan, Michael Rice, Eoin Larkin and Fogarty.

Laois kept in touch thanks to a John Brophy goal which cut the deficit to five points.

However scores from Michael Fennelly and Fogarty ensured Kilkenny held a comfortable interval advantage.

Willie Hyland and Sean Bourke battled hard for Laois on the restart, but Hogan's second goal firmly booked a final berth for his side against Dublin.

Joe Dooley's Offaly claimed an impressive 0-23 to 0-12 win over UCD in the Walsh Shield semi-final at Banagher.

Joe's son Shane, Daniel Currams and Cathal Parlon were the tormentors in chief as Offaly claimed a 0-9 to 0-6 interval lead.

Dublin's Liam Rushe kept the students in touch, but the Belfield boys were outclassed in the second half as Offaly upped their game.

Offaly now face Carlow in the decider, after their semi-final win over Westmeath on Friday night.
