GAA events postponed due to bad weather
A host of provincial club finals, the Champion 15 awards and the Roscommon County Convention are among the GAA events that have fallen victim of the wintry weather this weekend.
In Leinster, all three provincial finals that were scheduled for this weekend have been postponed. The AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Football Championship final between Kildare's Ballymore Eustace and Nobber of Meath, which was due to take place in Ballymore today, has been postponed.
Both the Junior Club Football and Hurling finals scheduled for tomorrow have also fallen victim of the adverse conditions.
St Andrew's of Carlow were due to face Meath's Ballinabrackey in the football decider at Carlow, while Rath was due to host the hurling final meeting of Drumcullen and Kilkenny's John Lockes. Dates for the refixed games have yet to be announced.
In Ulster, all games in the Northern Bank Minor Football tournament at St. Paul's GAA Club in Belfast have fallen foul of the bad weather.
The remaining quarter-finals which pit Donegal's Kilcar against Armagh's Camlough; and Lamh Dhearg of Antrim against Aughadrumsee of Fermanagh, will take place next Sunday with 12pm and 1.30pm starts respectively.
The semi-finals will take place on January 1 and 2, with the final now pencilled in for January 9.
In Ladies football, the Tesco Junior Club Championship final replay between Omagh St. Enda's and Caltra Cuans will not go ahead in Mullahoran today due to the inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions.
The match has been refixed for January 23 with the venue and further details set to be announced in the New Year.
Meanwhile, the annual Champion 15 awards, which were due to take place at Croke Park tonight, has been called off. The decision was taken on safety grounds owing to the bad weather.
A new date has yet to be announced for the awards night, which honours the top 15 hurlers in each of the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cup competitions.
Elsewhere, the Roscommon GAA Convention, scheduled for today and hosted by the Clann na Gael club in Drum Community Centre, has been postponed.
Following agreement from GAA headquarters, the Roscommon County Board have been granted a derogation from rule governing the time frame for holding County Conventions. The convention will now be held on January 8..
Finally, the postponement of the Leinster Minor Football Championship final at Eire Og, Carlow between Kildare side Athy and Rhode Og of Offaly has also been confirmed. The game had been scheduled for a 2pm start tomorrow afternoon.
