GAA to meet video technology firm
GAA officials are set to meet with a leading sports technology company tomorrow, as the calls to introduce video technology into Gaelic games increase.
Representatives of UK firm Hawk-Eye Innovations Ltd. will meet with members of the GAA Research Committee at Croke Park to give a presentation on how their equipment can help end controversial scoring incidents in major football and hurling fixtures.
Hawk-Eye claims to be the 'most sophisticated officiating tool used in any sport,' and recently they developed a goal-line football system for the English Football Association (FA) while also providing the BBC with a system for their snooker coverage.
It also provides technologies for high profile tennis and cricket fixtures around the world.
GAA Research Committee Secretary Pat Daly said that the committee hope to put forward a proposal next year which could tackle the growing problem of disputed refereeing decisions.
"It would be fair to say we would hope to have a proposal ready for next year," Daly told the Irish Sun.
"They (Hawk-Eye) will give a presentation on Wednesday. We'll see from there."
