Val Andrews and Terry Hyland were ratified last night as the Cavan senior football management team for a three-year term.

The duo got the nod at a specially convened meeting of the Cavan County Committee in the Kilmore Hotel, with their proposed tenure including a review after two years.

A statement from the Cavan County Board confirmed: "The ratification was a unanimous decision by the clubs of Cavan following a recommendation from the management committee of Cavan County Board earlier in the week.

"This appointment is with immediate effect."

Dubliner Andrews is returning to Cavan for a second time, after managing the county's senior side between 1998 and 2001. Cavan native Hyland was one of his selectors during that spell.

Andrews was in charge of Cavan when they last reached an Ulster senior final, and has managed the Louth, Leinster Interprovincial and Dublin minor teams in recent years.

Hyland managed the Cavan Junior and U-21 sides this year and achieved notable success with Lavey, who last year won the Cavan Intermediate title for the first time.
