Clubs seek nominations for managerial position
Seamus McEnaney's future as Monaghan senior football manager is in some doubt after a meeting of Monaghan GAA clubs last night decided to put an appointments process in place to select a manager for the 2011 campaign.
It had been expected that the County Committee meeting would ratify McEnaney for a further three years after a statement was issued by the County Board executive last week stating their support for him.
However, after lengthy debate, the delegates took the unexpected step of referring the matter back to their clubs, seeking nominations for the role.
A statement from Monaghan GAA PRO Siobhan McQuillan read: "The Monaghan County Committee has decided to seek nominations for managers of all county teams, i.e. senior football, senior hurling and minor hurling.
"Nominations are due to be returned by Friday, September 6."
McEnaney has been in charge of the Monaghan senior footballers for the past six years. Over that period he has guided the Farney County to an Allianz NFL Division 2 title, earned promotion to Division 1 and retained that status for next year.
Under his management, Monaghan has also contested two Ulster SFC finals.
McEnaney's charges exited this year's All-Ireland Championship to Kildare in the fourth round of the qualifiers, just six days after they had lost the Ulster final to Tyrone.
