Walsh reappointed as Sligo boss
Kevin Walsh is staying on as manager of the Sligo senior football panel, ending speculation about a possible return to his native Galway.
Walsh, who won two All-Ireland senior titles with the Tribesmen, was immediately linked with the Galway job when Joe Kernan resigned earlier this month.
But the former All-Star midfielder is set to have two more years in charge of Sligo, following developments at a meeting of the Sligo County Board last night.
A statement from the Sligo County Board confirmed that Walsh, his selectors and backroom team 'were ratified to remain as Sligo's senior management team for the next two years.'
The proposal for the Walsh-led management to remain in situ was accepted unanimously last night.
The Killanin man has made encouraging strides with Sligo since taking over from Tommy Jordan in November 2008, steering them to successive promotions in the National League.
The Yeats men also went agonisingly close to winning the Connacht senior title this summer, losing the final to Roscommon after wins over Mayo and Galway in the previous rounds.
Walsh is eager for his adopted county to get used to winning silverware, and views next Saturday's All-Ireland junior final between Sligo and Kerry as an opportunity to do just that.
Obviously happy with the progress made to date by Walsh, the statement from the Sligo County Board concluded: "We look forward to working once again with Kevin and his personnel as we face the new challenges of NFL Division 2 football and building on the steady progress of the last two years under their guidance."
