Shefflin to get second opinion on injury
Kilkenny GAA officials are to seek a second opinion on the cruciate ligament injury which is set to keep Henry Shefflin out of next month's All-Ireland SHC final.
Scans on the knee injury sustained by Shefflin in last Sunday's 3-22 to 1-19 semi-final win over Cork revealed that he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his left knee.
The normal recovery time for such an injury is nine months following surgery, with such a lay-off ruling Shefflin out of the September 5 showpiece against either Tipperary or Waterford.
However, according to today's Irish Times, the 31-year-old has sought a second opinion and has attended Ger Hartmann's sports injury clinic in Limerick in recent days.
It is believed that Shefflin will undergo more intensive treatment next week, and the Cats are hoping that this will result in the all-time top-scorer playing some part in the final, most likely as a substitute.
