National Hurling League: Division 3 and 4 round-ups
Meath joined Kerry in winning first time out in Allianz NHL Division 3A today, with the Royals claiming a 2-16 to 1-14 victory over London at Watford.
It was a tough opening round assignment for Meath manager TJ Reilly and his players, but they came through it having led 1-11 to 1-8 at half-time.
In Division 3B, Donegal overcame their Ulster rivals Tyrone for a 2-13 to 0-11 in Omagh. Both goals came in the second half, scored by full-forward Eugene Organ from the St. Eunan's club.
Afterwards, Donegal manager Andrew Wallace said: "We're happy with the win, especially considering the number of players we have unavailable through injury.
"The team dug deep to secure the win and winning away league games is important if we want to bid for promotion."
At Clan na Gael, Louth came out on top as they beat Sligo on a 2-11 to 0-11 scoreline. Their goals came from a Gerard Smith penalty in the first half and Shane Callan also netted after the break.
In the only game to take place in Division 4, Bernard Gaffney landed nine points to guide Cavan to a 1-17 to 3-04 victory over Leitrim at Kingspan Breffni Park.
Cavan's Mark McEntee scored this high-scoring game's opening goal, seven minutes before half-time, and that was quickly followed by Leitrim's opener from Dave McGovern.
Clement Cunniffe and Shane Kiernan also bulged the Cavan net in the second half, but Gaffney has the biggest say for the home side.
