Eight-week ban proposed for Kerry star Galvin

Having lost their opening two games and lost the services of talismanic midfielder Darragh O Sé through retirement, Kerry's NFL Division 1 title defence has taken another blow with the news of an eight-week suspension for star forward Paul Galvin.

Galvin was given a straight red card in last Saturday's loss to Cork at Páirc Uí Rinn, for clashing with Rebels defender Eoin Cadogan off-the-ball.

The GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) has proposed a four-week suspension for the 2009 Footballer of the Year, with the term to be doubled as he was found guilty of a similar Category 2 offence in the past 48 weeks.

Galvin was sent-off against Cork in last June's Munster Championship semi-final replay at Páirc Uí Chaoímh.

If an appeal to the Central Hearings Committee (CHC), likely to be heard next week, is unsuccessful, the Finuge clubman will miss Kerry's next four league games against Derry, Galway, Mayo and Tyrone.

Cadogan was also dismissed for his part in the off-the-ball scuffle with Galvin, and is facing a four-week ban.

Meanwhile, Mark Ronaldson, Mayo's scoring hero in their win over Tyrone last Sunday, is also in line for a month-long suspension.

Ronaldson scored 1-6 in the Omagh victory for John O'Mahony's men, but a suspension is now hanging over him relating to an incident during the game.

His yellow card for an offence in the closing stages, which involved Tyrone's Ryan McMenamin, has been upgraded to a red card.
