Serious injury scare for Limerick footballer

Limerick GAA club Fr. Casey's are today awaiting news of a horror injury to senior player Tom Cahill.

Cahill suffered a suspected broken leg in last night's Limerick Senior Football Championship final between Dromcollogher/Broadford and Fr. Casey's, which had to be abandoned following the injury.

The first major game to be played under the Gaelic Grounds floodlights was held up for almost 30 minutes before a decision was made to abandon it.

Just 36 minutes had been played with the sides tied at 0-5 apiece.

Tim Ryan, the events controller at the Gaelic Grounds, abandoned the game due to health and safety reasons in consultation with the match referee.

However, Fr. Casey's were interested in continuing the game and it is understood Dromcollogher/Broadford would have played on if necessary.

Limerick GAA Chairman Liam Lenihan confirmed that it is unclear when the re-fixture will take place.

"No decision has been made on a refixture as of yet," he told Limerick's Live 95FM.

"There's a meeting of the CCCC on Monday night as there is every Monday night, and the game will be refixed then with free admission the next day.

"There are games fixed for today and for Sunday the 18. We are well ahead of schedule in terms of the Munster Championship as the first round of that isn't until November 15."
