Tipperary clubs win Hurling Sevens honours

Tipperary clubs were to the fore as Moycarkey-Borris, Shannon Rovers and Sean Treacy's claimed All-Ireland Hurling Sevens titles today.

At Kilmacud Crokes, Moycarkey-Borris claimed the Meteor All-Ireland Senior Hurling Sevens crown, while Mayo outfit Ballyhaunis were the winners of the Shield competition.

There were goals galore in the senior final. Moycarkey-Borris battled their way to an 8-11 to 4-15 win over fellow Premier County side Kilruane McDonagh’s.

Moycarkey also picked up additional silverware with goalkeeper John Kelly receiving the player of the tournament award.

The Shield competition also saw two teams from the same county go head to head in an all-Mayo final, with Ballyhaunis overcoming Tooreen on a final scoreline of 2-10 to 0-10.

The winners of the Under-13 competition were James Stephens from Kilkenny, who got the better of host club Kilmacud Crokes.

Meanwhile, Shannon Rovers were crowned Bord Gais Energy St. Jude's All-Ireland Junior Hurling Sevens champions tonight following a 3-7 to 1-6 win over fellow Tipperary outfit Emly at Templeogue.

In a keenly-contested encounter, a brace of Roy Darcy goals proved to be the main difference at the interval as Shannon Rovers built up a 2-4 to 0-2 interval lead.

In blustery conditions, Emly upped their game after half-time and attacked strongly, despite conceding a Padraic O'Meara goal within 30 seconds of the restart.

Emly pressed hard with their goalkeeper Mike Richardson playing more of an out-field role.

Trailing by 3-5 to 0-2, Emly only conceded two points in the closing eight minutes, as Pat Buckley, James Ryan and Mike Ring tried their utmost to claw back the lead - but Rovers held too much in reserve.

Meanwhile, the Junior Shield title also went to Tipperary with the Sean Treacy's club securing a 3-8 to 1-2 victory over Thomas Davis in the decider.

A hat-trick of first-half goals, including a brace from Eamonn Ryan, paved the way for their first ever title win.
