Dempsey to continue as Laois boss

The future of Sean Dempsey as Laois senior football manager has been secured after a vote by Laois County Board delegates in Portlaoise on Tuesday night.

Dempsey had received the unanimous backing of the Laois County Board executive last Tuesday, and the club delegates also gave him their support.

With last night's vote tallied at 20-6, Dempsey was backed to continue his stint as the O'Moore County supremo.

The St. Joseph's clubman had been outspoken over some indiscipline in the Laois squad since he took over late last year as a successor to Kerry native Liam Kearns.

Dempsey spoke at last night's meeting and outlined to the delegates present that a players' charter will be implemented next year.

It has also emerged that another selector may be added to the backroom management. Dempsey had Dermot Murphy, who worked previously with Kearns, and former county defender Eamon Delaney as his selectors for his first year in charge.

Laois crashed out of the 2009 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship following a second round qualifier loss to Down in Newry in June.

Meanwhile, Niall Rigney was unanimously reappointed as the Laois senior hurling manager for 2010.
