Carr to stick with Cavan
Tommy Carr has confirmed that he is prepared to manage the Cavan senior footballers for a second year, despite calls from a number of Cavan clubs for the former Dublin star to resign.
At a meeting of the Cavan Co Executive last Tuesday a no confidence proposal in Carr was defeated by 30 votes to 23, amid rumours that he would step down.
It since emerged that members of the Co Executive had asked Carr to resign two weeks ago, while a number of players - including key forward Seanie Johnston - publicly encouraged him to stay.
However, putting an end to the mounting speculation, the ex-Dublin and Roscommon boss informed Cavan Co chairman Philip Smith yesterday that he wants to continue in the Breffni county role.
Carr said: "It wasn't an easy decision to make. After the vote of confidence, we did give it a lot of consideration.
"There was a lot of dithering on my behalf, but we've decided that we're going to go ahead again."
Carr was confirmed as Cavan's new manager last September, landing a three-year term as Donal Keogan's successor. Peter Reilly and Niall Lynch were installed as his selectors.
Cavan finished mid-table in National League Division 3 this year, while they lost to Antrim in an Ulster Championship semi-final and suffered a shock defeat to Wicklow in the second round of the All-Ireland qualifiers.
