Cullen replaces Brennan in Dublin side

Dublin manager Pat Gilroy has recalled Bryan Cullen to his side for Monday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Kerry at Croke Park (throw-in 2pm).

Cullen, an impressive substitute last time out against Kildare, will start at centre-back in place of the suspended Ger Brennan.

Brennan was shown a straight red card after 15 minutes during the Leinster final win, and subsequently received a four-week suspension.

However, despite speculation that Raheny Shamrocks clubman Ciaran Whelan was set for a starting berth, the long-serving midfielder has been named on the bench.

The situation regarding the departure of Kilmacud Crokes clubman Mark Vaughan from the Dublin squad has also been cleared up.

He had a recurrence of a back injury which prevents him from training several times a week.

Vaughan has had several spells on the sidelines this year through injury and requires "a full programme of corrective activity" to ensure his return to full fitness.

As a result, he is no longer a part of the Dublin panel for this year.

Meanwhile, there are a number of injuries concerning other Dublin players.

James Brogan broke his leg in a recent club match, while Parnells clubman Eamon Fennell suffered a broken toe during a recent county training.

St. Vincent's clubhman Hugh Gill is set for a two-month spell on the sidelines after he fractured a fibula in a recent training session.

Encouragingly for Gilroy and his management team, both Kevin Nolan and Mark Davoren are on the road to recovery after sustaining injuries in the past month.

Nolan injured his hip a month ago and requires three further weeks of rehabilitation work.

Following the cruciate knee ligament injury he picked up in the Leinster semi-final win over Westmeath, Davoren will undergo surgery in a fortnight.

It is expected that Davoren's recovery time will take a further six to eight months.
