Two changes for Galway footballers

Kieran Fitzgerald and Matthew Clancy have been drafted into the Galway team for Saturday's All-Ireland SFC fourth-round qualifier clash with Donegal at Markievicz Park (throw-in 5pm).

Former All-Star defender Fitzgerald comes in at right corner-back for Niall Coyne, who injured himself during the first half of last Sunday's Connacht final defeat to Mayo.

Clancy, who came on as a late substitute in that game, will indirectly replace Gary Sice for the trip to Sligo.

Clancy will join Michael Meehan and Nicky Joyce, Galway's two top scorers against Mayo, in a lively-looking full-forward line.

Galway boss Liam Sammon has also made positional switches to his midfield and half-forward line, with Joe Bergin and Niall Coleman joining forces in centre-field and Paul Conroy and Sean Armstrong moved into the half-forwards, flanking former team captain Padraic Joyce.

Saturday's encounter will be the fifth Championship fixture between Galway and Donegal, with the score standing at 2-1 in favour of Galway and there has been one draw to date.

The counties last met in the 2003 Championship when it took a replay to separate them in an All-Ireland quarter-final which Donegal won by three points.

Michael Meehan scored 1-9 when Galway powered to a 1-16 to 0-12 victory over Donegal in Salthill in March during this year's National League.

GALWAY (SFC v Donegal): A Faherty; K Fitzgerald, F Hanley, D Burke (capt); G Bradshaw, D Blake, D Meehan; J Bergin, N Coleman; S Armstrong, P Joyce, P Conroy; M Clancy, M Meehan, N Joyce.
