GPA to hold press conference

As the future of the GAA Players government grant scheme remains in question, the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) have called a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning at a Dublin hotel.

A GPA delegation comprising of their Chief Executive Dessie Farrell and Chairman Donal Og Cusack met with Minister for Sport Martin Cullen on Monday night.

However both sides failed to reach an agreement on the future of the player grants scheme.

It is understood that Minister Cullen wants the scheme in its current format scrapped, and is in favour of top-tier counties only getting a slice of the pie.

However the GPA is strongly opposed to any form of scheme, which will see just a selection of inter-county teams receiving grants.

Players from all-four panels involved in the upcoming Munster Senior hurling and Leinster Senior football finals will be available for interviews with non-GAA broadcast rights holders.
