Carlow 2-15 Westmeath 1-15

Carlow are in fourth spot in Division 2 of the National Hurling League following a slender three-point win over Westmeath at Cusack Park, Mullingar today.

Carlow burst out of the blocks early in this game and led by 1-09 to 0-04 before Westmeath made a strong finish to the opening half.

A 30th minute Derek McNicholas goal kick-started the Lake County's revival, with points from Brian Smyth (2) and Adam Price ensuring Carlow led by just two points at the interval on a 1-09 to 1-07 scoreline.

Carlow continued to perform strongly on the restart in a high-scoring affair with a swirling wind failing to benefit either side.

However with the visitors taking goals in either half from Robert Foley and Eddie Byrne, Carlow deservedly took a three-point win.
