Central Council to select new Cork hurling manager

Cork GAA clubs voted in support of a motion from their Co Executive last night which gives the GAA’s Central Council the task of selecting the next Cork senior hurling manager.

A specially-convened meeting of the Executive and club delegates tonight at Páirc Uí Chaoimh overwhelmingly backed the motion, which will see GAA director general Pauric Duffy oversee the appointment process.

Some 113 delegates were eligible to vote, with 72 in favour of letting Central Council play a role in the appointment of a new Cork senior hurling manager for a two-year term.

However the decision of the Management Appointments Committee will have to be rubberstamped by a full Cork Co Board meeting for approval, however it is unlikely to be met with any opposition.

A total of 11 motions were tabled at last Thursday night’s Co Board meeting, with a deferral of the vote granted by Co chairman Jerry O’Sullivan after clubs requested an email with the motions to be circulated to all of the clubs.

The majority of the motions received very little support with one of the motions receiving no support at all.

A majority of 57 votes was needed to succeed in the first count and the executive motion surpassed that figure. The next step now will be for the Executive to inform Central Council of this decision, and the task will begin immediately

Meanwhile the interim team management of U-21 boss John Considine and his selectors held their first training session tonight and the team to face to Clare in Sunday’s Allianz NHL Division 1 clash on Sunday is expected to be named on Thursday night.
