Allianz National Football League Division 4 round-up
Leitrim 0-13 Wicklow 0-11, Carrick-on-Shannon
Late points from Declan Maxwell and Brendan Gallagher steered Leitrim to their second win in Allianz NFL Division 4 this afternoon.
Mickey Moran's men accounted for Wicklow and had a big helping hand from top-scoring forward Ray Cox.
The influential free-taker scored three points in the opening half and Michael Foley chipped in with two late scores as Leitrim took an 0-8 to 0-5 half-time lead.
Tony Hannon and Leighton Glynn were on the mark for Wicklow and the visitors did up the tempo in the third quarter, closing to gap to a single point.
But Leitrim were the better side on the day and would have increased their winning margin but for the efforts of Wicklow goalkeeper Mervyn Travers.
In the end, second half points from Cox, Barry McWeeney, Foley, Maxwell and Gallagher were enough to settle the issue.
Clare 5-21 Kilkenny 0-4, Cusack Park
Clare romped to a 32-point victory over an outclassed Kilkenny side in NFL Division 4 this afternoon.
The Banner men opened their win account at Cusack Park, with David Tubridy (2-4, 0-2f) their scorer-in-chief.
Kilkenny were 1-9 to 0-0 behind at the break, falling to score with the wind at their backs.
They did get on the scoresheet in the second half but Frank Doherty's Clare side were in a different class.
The hosts' other goals came from substitute Cathal O’Connor, Timmy Ryan and Gary Brennan.
Carlow 1-11 Antrim 4-14, Dr. Cullen Park
Mark Dougan scored a hat-trick of goals for Antrim as they handed Carlow their third defeat of Allianz NFL Division 4 at Dr. Cullen Park this afternoon.
The Creggan clubman was in unstoppable form, netting his first goal after only five minutes as the Saffrons moved to the top of the table
- ahead of Sligo on scoring difference.
Dougan helped the visitors into an early 1-5 to 0-0 lead before Mark Carpenter ended Carlow's wait for their opening point.
With CJ McGourty and Dougan adding further goals, Carlow were 3-7 to
0-8 behind at half-time.
And although David Phelan grabbed a goal for them from a penalty, their afternoon ended on a sour note when Derek Hayden was dismissed on a straight red card and John Murphy had a penalty saved by Sean McGreevy.
