‘It’s up to you now,’ say Rebel panel
The striking Cork hurling panel of 2008 today expressed their delight at last night’s meeting with club representatives from the city and county.
“From day one we just wanted to get our voices out to the clubs,” said Donal Óg Cusack.
“We knew we would be asked tough questions, but we wanted that and that’s why we called the meeting.
“We put ourselves forward to any questions they had.”
Many of the county’s junior clubs were represented which was significant, according to Tom Kenny.
“A lot of them voiced their concerns. Their voices aren’t being heard,” he said.
The representatives are to return to their clubs to discuss the next step with a second meeting scheduled in a fortnight.
“We wanted them to go back to their clubs and discuss some things. That’s exactly what happened. We got great support,” said John Gardiner, last year’s captain.
The clubs must now decide whether to hold a vote of confidence in Gerald McCarthy and whether to advise their club delegates to come back to seek advise on how to vote on any important meetings from here on.
Last night’s meeting between the striking Cork hurlers and club representatives is likely to be discussed at a Co board meeting tomorrow night, according to chairman Jerry O’Sullivan.
“You can never say for certain what will come up for discussion, but I’m sure there will be some mention of it,” he told the Evening Echo newspaper today.
The chairman said the board had no information about what was discussed at the meeting.
“Obviously, we were not present there and don’t really know what happened.
“We’re only going on what was reported on television, radio and in the newspapers,” O’Sullivan added.
