Tyrone manager Harte hurt in crash

GAA officials and fans today wished Tyrone manager Mickey Harte a swift recovery after he suffered minor injuries in a road accident.

Mr Harte was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital after his car was involved in a collision with a lorry.

It is understood Mr Harte escaped the Co Tyrone accident with cuts and bruises, while there were no reports of anyone else being injured.

After news emerged of the accident at 11am on the Whitebridge Road near Carrickmore, a GAA spokesman in Tyrone said there was relief that the manager had not been seriously injured.

"Tyrone County Board would wish him a speedy recovery," said the spokesman.

Since the county's footballers were crowned All-Ireland champions last month, the manager has been in demand at a string of events.

"We know he has a busy schedule, but we hope he will take his time now to recover," said the GAA spokesman.

"Hopefully he will be back as soon as possible."

An Assembly member who lives near the scene of the accident, Sinn Fein's Barry McElduff, said that there was huge goodwill towards Mickey Harte and the community would be relieved the incident was not more serious.

"I would wish Mickey Harte a speedy recovery," said Mr McElduff, who chairs the Stormont sports committee.

"He is held in high regard both within and beyond Co Tyrone.

"He is a great ambassador for sport."
