Tommy Carr has been officially announced as the new Cavan senior football manager, having been presented to County Board delegates at a meeting in the Hotel Kilmore last night.

The Tipperary native succeeds Donal Keogan in the position. He has been handed a three-year term to try and revive the fortunes of the Breffni men.

Also linked last week to the Meath job, this will be Carr's first senior inter-county role since he resigned as Roscommon manager in March 2005 after two full seasons at the helm.

He managed Dublin between 1999 and 2001, winning a single O'Byrne Cup title during that spell.

Of course, he had a lengthy playing career with the Dubs and was a wing-back on the 1991 GAA All-Star team.

He beat off competition for the Cavan job from ex-Fermanagh manager Dominic Corrigan and former Armagh player Justin McNulty.

Carr impressed during the interview process and gained unanimous backing from the County Board when his name was put forward at a specially arranged meeting last Friday.
