Dempsey nominated for Sligo position
Luke Dempsey is one of the nominees who have been put forward by clubs for the vacant position of Sligo senior football manager.
The highly-regarded Dempsey ended his four-year reign as Longford manager after their All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Laois in July.
Ironically, the secondary school teacher is being interviewed for the Laois job which was vacated by Liam Kearns last month.
Dempsey, who previously managed both Westmeath and Carlow, was proposed for the Sligo role by the St Patrick's club.
He could emerge as the leading candidate as it is understood that there is grassroots support for the Sligo Co Board to appoint a manager from outside the county.
Also reportedly in contention to succeed Tommy Jordan are Coolera-Strandhill manager Pat Kilcoyne, who was nominated by Tubbercurry, and former Donegal favourite Jimmy McGuinness, whose name was put forward by St John's.
Tourlestrane's Anthony Brennan, a former Sligo minor manager, is another potential candidate, along with ex-Fermanagh boss Charlie Mulgrew.
Sligo officials hope to be in a position to appoint the new manager at their next Co Board meeting at the end of the month.
The appointed sub-committee will spend the next couple of weeks contacting and interviewing the respective candidates.
