GAA announce draw for Kimacud Crokes Sevens
The draw for the 2008 oneills.com Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Football Sevens was announced today at the launch at Croke Park.
GAA President Nickey Brennan and several leading inter-county stars, including Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh, were in attendance.
The tournament celebrates its 36th year and will take place on Saturday, September 20.
Some of the best club teams in Ireland are due to participate, including Ballina (Mayo), Moy and Clan Na Gael (Tyrone), Castlewellan and Longstone (Down), Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin), Tuam Stars (Galway), Castlehaven (Cork), Bellaghy (Derry) Tarbert and Kilcummin (Kerry), St. Gall's (Antrim) and Castleblayney Faughs (Monaghan).
The teams will compete in group stages over one day at four venues in the Stillorgan area, with the top eight teams playing in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final at the Kilmacud Crokes grounds in Glenalbyn.
Speaking at the draw, Brennan said: "I am delighted, once again, to be involved in the launch of the oneills.com Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Football Sevens.
"The Kilmacud Sevens has become an integral part of the GAA calendar and plays a vital role in the unique atmosphere that defines All-Ireland final weekend.
"It is a day and occasion which offers the chance for players and officials from all over the country to come together in the proper spirit of Gaelic Games."
The group games will be played on a league basis. The winner of each group will qualify for the knock-out stage of the competition. The first games take place at 11am on Saturday morning.
