Galvin ban upheld

Kerry football captain Paul Galvin has today lost an appeal against his six-month ban.

The ban was imposed for apparently knocking the notebook of referee Paddy Russell to the ground when receiving his second yellow card against Clare on June 15 and also reportedly for verbally abusing a linesman.

With his championship season in ruins, Galvin is expected to take his case to the GAA's Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) after the failure of last night's appeal bid at a meeting of the Central Appeals Committee.

The GAA's Central Hearings Committee upheld the Kerry forward's original suspension at a committee meeting on Monday.

Also last night, Monaghan's Paul Finlay unsuccessfully appealed the one-month suspension he earned for comments he directed at referee Derek Fahy during the Farney men's Ulster quarter-final defeat to Fermanagh.

Finlay's punishment includes a one-match ban which will sideline him for Monaghan's All-Ireland first round qualifier next month.

A short statement from the GAA confirmed that "at meeting of the Central Appeals Committee held at Croke Park last night, appeals from Paul Finlay (Monaghan) and Paul Galvin (Kerry) were heard.

The decision of the Central Hearings Committee in the matters was upheld."
