Flanagan fit for Leinster semi-final

Westmeath midfielder Martin Flanagan has been given the all clear to line out against Dublin in the Leinster SFC semi-final on June 29.

The Tyrrellspass player was substituted at half-time during Westmeath's 2-11 to 1-08 quarter-final win over Offaly in Tullamore on Saturday.

It had been feared that Flanagan, who scored a point before his departure, had suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.

"I felt something popping in my knee and I wasn't too sure about it," Flanagan revealed.

He went for a scan in the aftermath of Saturday's game with tests on his knee confirming that there is no damage.

Flanagan, who also scored three points for Westmeath in their opening round win over Longford, is delighted that his side are still on course for Leinster honours.

"We are really happy to be in a Leinster semi-final. It was a good evening's work," he added.

"In the second half we opened up and made more use of the ball and scored two good goals and a few points, so we are happy enough with the win."

Westmeath have already beaten Dublin this year - they won April's NFL Division 2 final clash.

The Lake county men were also victorious over the Dubs en route to their first ever Leinster championship success back in 2004. That was the last time the Metropolitans lost a game in the provincial championship.
