Fermanagh secure win over Longford at Pearse Park

Longford 1-10 Fermanagh 2-10, Pearse Park

Fermanagh belatedly got their Division Three campaign off the ground with a win over Longford at Pearse Park.

The Ernesiders' previous two fixtures against Leitrim and Limerick were postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

But they made a lightning start this afternoon with Ciaran McElroy goaling after 18 seconds. Longford replied with a Paul Barden penalty but they had Shane Mulligan sent-off before half-time.

The visitors turned around 1-6 to 1-3 ahead and Matthew Keenan grabbed their second goal before both he and Longford's Diarmuid Masterson saw red.

Louth 2-17 Leitrim 2-8, Dundalk

Louth chalked up their first win of the 2008 National League by beating Leitrim at Dundalk.

Eamonn McEneaney's side were helped on their way when Leitrim defender Ciaran Kennedy deflected the ball into his own net after only 15 seconds.

A Leitrim side hampered by injuries battled on but they leaked a second goal to Ray Finnegan as Louth led 2-6 to 0-7 at the break.

Ronan Gallagher netted twice for the visitors during the second half but a flurry of points meant Louth were never in danger.

Sligo 0-14 Limerick 1-10, Markievicz Park

Sligo opened their win account in Division Three in dramatic fashion at Markievicz Park today.

They required a late point from Johnny Davey out on the right wing to defeat a game Limerick side.

In wet conditions, Limerick took a 1-6 to 0-5 lead into the break after John Galvin's high ball in had been punched to the net by Kieran O'Callaghan.

Into the closing stages, Limerick kept ahead through Ian Ryan and Stephen Kelly, but points from Kenny Sweeney, Kieran Quinn and Davey saw Sligo pip them.

Wexford 2-8 Down 0-9, Wexford Park

Wexford kept up their unbeaten run in Division Three as they turned the tables on Down during the second half at Wexford Park.

The Mourne men, who were also protecting an unblemished record, had good scores from Liam Doyle and John Clarke as they moved five points clear.

Wexford trailed by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time but two goals in the space of five minutes proved decisive.

Adrian Flynn beat Down stopper Brendan McVeigh with an angled 37th-minute shot and, soon after, Mattie Forde bulged the net.
