Cork GAA Board to decide on points appeal tomorrow

The Executive of the Cork GAA County Board will meet tomorrow to decide if they will appeal the decision taken by the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) on Tuesday, to award the points to Cork's opponents for the failure of the Rebel footballers and hurlers to line out in the opening two rounds of the National Leagues.

Croke Park yesterday turned down Kilkenny's request to re-fix their game against Cork hurlers.

The sides had been due to meet in the opening round on February 9, but game failed to take place due to the strike action of the players.

Cork were deducted the points while also slapped with a €400 fine by the CCCC. The Rebels also suffered similar fate for failing to play Waterford last weekend.

However, a lifeline had been extended by the Cats, late on Tuesday night to re-fix their meeting with Cork for this weekend. Despite this request, the Kilkenny gesture fell on deaf ears.

GAA president Nickey Brennan insisted this week that he would not interfere with the decision of the CCCC to strip Cork of their league points.

"Irrespective of how we feel about the matter, we just can't get involved in it," he said.

"It's a CCCC matter and we'll leave it to them. They don't need Pauric Duffy or I telling them how to do their business."
