Players fail to accept proposals
Relations in the ongoing dispute between the Cork GAA players and the Cork County Board have worsened after the Senior hurlers and footballers tonight rejected the latest document put forward, in a bid to find a resolution to the deadlock.
Attempts to resolve the dispute has deepened after the players tonight rejected fresh proposals.
The players held a meeting in Cork tonight in which the document of proposals which resulted from marathon talks the previous night was rejected.
The document was produced after talks involving both sides of the dispute, Labour Relations Commission chief Kieran Mulvey and new GAA Ard Stiurthoir Pauric Duffy; which concluded after 3am on Wednesday morning.
While this document was said to have offered both sides a better deal, it still recommended that Cork Senior football manager Teddy Holland continue in his post. However Holland's appointment and that of his selectors is the key sticking point in this dispute and the players have failed to budge on the issue.
Despite the efforts by former Player Welfare Manager Pauric Duffy and the LRC Chief, relations between the County Board and the Players are said to have now reach an all-time low, as this dispute worsens.
It looks increasingly unlikely that either Cork footballers or hurlers will line out at all in the National League this season, with a firm doubt over the hurlers opening fixture against Kilkenny this Sunday.
A doubt has also been expressed over the participation of the Cork Senior teams in their respective hurling and football championships this Summer.
Should either Cork team fail to fulfil two fixtures in their respective League, they will be expelled from the competition. Already the Senior footballers have had their opening round game against Meath postponed. This game has been provisionally refixed for March 9th.
