DRA adjourns grants hearing

The GAA's Disputes Resolution Authority decided to adjourn the case taken by Mark Conway and an Omagh solicitors' firm on behalf of the 'Of One Belief' group after a meeting at a the Radisson Hotel at Dublin Airport last night.

The 'Of One Belief' group, founded by Conway, believes that the decision to award grants to inter-county players breaks the GAA's Rule 11, which deals with amateur status and says that no players can receive payments for playing Gaelic Games.

Solicitors for the GAA's Central Council argued at the DRA hearing that there had never been an agreement reached at their meeting on December 8 in relation to the acceptance and processing of Goverment grants for inter-county hurlers and footballers.

The case has been deferred pending the progress of a number of motions in relation to the issue, which will come before the GAA's Annual Congress in Sligo on April 11 and 12.
