Freeman to continue as Monaghan captain
Damien Freeman is to continue as captain of the Monaghan senior football team, it has been revealed.
Monaghan manager Seamus McEnaney confirmed yesterday that Freeman, who was nominated for a 2007 All-Star at half-back, is staying on as skipper.
It will be the fourth year that Freeman has led the county side.
He captained Monaghan to the National League Division Two title in 2005 - his first year in the role - and also led the Farney men through to last year's Ulster SFC final, which was their first for 19 years.
In his first appearance of the season, Freeman played at right half-back in the Monaghan side that beat Antrim by 1-12 to 0-7 in the Dr McKenna Cup last Sunday.
The Magheracloone clubman got married yesterday and, following his honeymoon, he should be available again for Monaghan's NFL opener against Roscommon on February 3.
Meanwhile, Clontibret's Vincent Corey has been named as Monaghan's vice-captain for 2008.
