Leg-break agony for Armagh's Austin

Armagh's Ronan Austin is facing a number of months on the sidelines after he broke his leg in Wednesday night's Gaelic Life Dr McKenna Cup defeat to Fermanagh.

Austin fell awkwardly during the opening exchanges of the 1-11 to 0-10 loss at Kingspan Breffni Park and the Armagh medics have confirmed the worst possible news for the Clan na Gael clubman.

Partnering Dara Edwards in a makeshift midfield, Austin was hoping to impress new Armagh boss Peter McDonnell with the National Football League just weeks away.

But now the 2004 All-Ireland Under-21 winner will miss the league campaign, although he is expected to recover in time for the Ulster championship.

Meanwhile, Tyrone's playmaker of old Brian McGuigan could make his first appearance in county colours in more than two years when the Red Hands take on Donegal in a crucial McKenna Cup clash tomorrow.

McGuigan, who has battled back from a broken leg and a career-threatening eye injury, has been named on the bench for the trip to Ballyshannon.

The Ardboe ace has not featured for Mickey Harte's side since helping them to their second All-Ireland title in 2005.

Harte has made seven changes to the side he selected for the midweek win over Down, including bringing in Johnny Curran as goalkeeper and selecting Colin Holmes and Conal Martin at midfield.

TYRONE (McKenna Cup v Donegal): J Curran; PJ Quinn, C McCarron (Dromore), M Swift; D Harte, D Carlin, P Jordan; C Holmes, C Martin; G Reilly, C McCarron (Omagh), A McCarron; M Penrose, T McGuigan, Shaun O'Neill.
